Very few are aware of the Raynaud's disease, but the problem affects as much as 5-10% of the population. Surprisingly, it mainly affects young people between 15 and 45 years old. Research shows that the occurrence of the disease is four times higher among women than men.
It may affect individuals of various occupations - from pianists and office workers to the cold storage staff and mining machinery operators.
The most common symptoms of Raynaud's disease are the feeling of cold, as well as bruising and tingling in the hands and feet. The symptoms are caused by the contraction of the arteries which hinders the export of blood rich in oxygen. The accompanying pain and troublesome symptoms impact the quality of life.
Augustów Medical SPA is the only facility in Poland to run the Raynaud's Diagnosis and Rehabilitation Program in consultation with specialists from the Medical University of Białystok.
The Rehabilitation Clinic of the Medical University of Bialystok has developed a program of non-pharmacological therapy of the Raynaud's symptom, under the direction of prof. Anna Kurliszyn - Moskal, the head of the Rehabilitation Clinic. In addition to the diagnosis of microcirculation, therapeutic treatment is carried out, including a three-week cycle of rehabilitation treatments. Very good effects were observed, consisting in reducing the severity of pain and the incidence of seizures This treatment has been implemented since January 2017 at the Sanatorium Uzdrowiskowy in Augustów. It is the only one in the European scale, an innovative project of non-pharmacological treatment of Raynaud's symptom.
